It turns out print ain’t dead!

Established in 2023, Rabarbar Press loves to work on everything from handdrawn DIY zines to posters, invitations, publications and visual art. The press is run by graphic designer and artist Vikki Wiercinski.

Vikki has over a decade of history in the design/maker/art community in Edmonton, having been the lead organizer of the city's Royal Bison Art & Craft Fair since 2010.

A longtime risograph enthusiast, Vikki journeyed to Japan in 2023 and printed at Hand Saw Press in Tokyo. The incredible risograph printing process and community-building effects of riso was on full display. It was time to bring it back to Edmonton and work to blend analog and digital processes between the art and design fields.

What’s a Rabarbar?

It’s the Polish word for rhubarb, that delightful and deliciously colourful summer treat. In English, rabarbar sounds like rabble-rousing, ruckus.

Vikki's family came to western Canada from Poland in the 1980s, a country famous for its print poster culture, and more than a little rabble-rousing too. Rabarbar is a nod to that history.
